Vodka dosing help

depends on how much you are dosing....if you are dosing slowly...at the 1 to 2 ml range, then you might not see anything for a month....

I'm doing like what the article on RC instructed. Should I up the amount gradually? I have about 120 Net water volume and currently I'm dosing 20 drops in the morning and 20 drops in the evening. How much are you dosing in your tank currently?

ok, just up my dosage to 20 drops tonight. I plan on increase by 1 additional drop each time I dose until I see some positive effects. Let's see how this thing will work out.

Depending on the size of the drops, that's about 1 ml. Why not use a syringe that actually measures in ml? 1 aditional drop is very little ~ .05ml.

The only reason I'm doing by drops is because I want to do it slow to make sure there is no negative effect, just like dripping kalk. this is my first time doing this so I'm a little too careful. Once I get it going then I'll dose by ml.

One Question...WHY? All I do is water changes....tank is beautiful.... not starting an argument, but really Why? I am amazed by how many people continue to do stuff to a tank other than sit back and look at it... so why? Just curious...

Bacteria is very much already a part of your tank...just like in your stomach, you can add bacteria (enzymes) like Align so you don't need meds....You can add bacteria to help a septic system, and you can add a carbon source that creates an ULNS which allows you to feed more, have more bio-load, and Stony corals that just grow incredible....and more...

Also, it is now an established fact that aquaria are carbon limited. By providing the bacteria present the additional carbon they require, they are able to finish the job of nutrient reduction.

That picture above is of Iwan Lasser's original tank, not mine. I just wanted to show what was possible with carbon/vodka dosing.

That (frags) will have to wait for my new build. :)

Many here have experience with carbon dosing, going back over 15 years. That's when I started using a methanol batch denitrator that I still have.

There are others forms/methods, as mentioned. Vodka/ethanol, vinegar and even sugar (which can form mold, btw).

It may not be for everyone. If you do decide to try it, just make sure that you understand what to do, first.

Although my address says Cumming I am as far away from Cumming as I am Canton. So, when you start your build I would be happy to help. Or just watch. LOL Might learn a thing or 10,000.

Thanks, but it will be after the new year before I begin.

That denitrator, btw, uses methanol to reduce nitrate; and has an option using strontium nitrate to reduce phosphate.

It will keep both down near zero, using even the best test kits.
