After racking my brain trying to figure out what was wrong with my tank, I went and saw Chris at Einstiens today. After doing a water test Chris checked the salinty of my water, and after tripple checking he told me it was reading 1.015. My refractometer which is only 5 mths old said my salinty was 1.026. Came back home checked it with my old refractometer and it read 1.015. So to all make sure your refractometer is giving you the right reading. Got to go start slowly bringing the salinty back up

So am I thanks for telling me about Chris .Maybe now my head can take a break LOL.

Did you calibrate the thing when you bought it?

Edit: becca10
I know about the heart burn and i didnt even have any wings. I think Bubba is going to be keeping you up tonight with all the sweet tea he drank tonight

Aye!

I had a similar issue with my old ocular refractometer. When it was time to get a new one, I bought one of these and haven't looked back. One of the best reef equipment purchases you can make:

Similar thing happened to me.

My teenage son was "fiddling" with the set screw on my refractometer and never told me. I couldn't figure out what was going wrong until I had my water indepentently tested and my salinity was 1.032! Then I brought in my refractometer and had it calibrated and all has been fine now of the year. :)
