I bought the clear hose for years. Replaced it when ever it got discolored and so on. For the past year I have been using a garden hose. 50 foot to reach my tank and everyone look just fine. What would be the issue with a garden hose? Would like to know if I need to watch for something. Spending 50 dollars on a hose to have water spend 3 minutes in it is insane IMO!

Regular water hoses are not for potable water use. You can't drink from one so why do you think it would be good for your fish? The leech lead among other chemicals. USE ONLY A HOSE MARKED AS POTABLE WATER USE.
Speaking of drinking from them. I have been doing that all my life. I also have 3 & 4 year old fish. You are probably right though maybe I am just lucky.
