Does salterwater go bad? I made up 40 Gal of saltwater for a water change in one of my 40 gal trash cans but I found one that was made up 4 months ago, wondering if I should toss it or is it still good to be used in a water change.

I thought I had read that the salt will start to lose some concentration of trace elements and such if the salt sits for a long time, not true? Even if true I guess this would only matter for a reef tank and would depend at what rate the elements were lost.

Anyway, don't know that this is true, just thought I had read something to that affect.

If there is no residue coating the inside of the container indicating precipitation, verify the salinity and use it.
I make up 45G at a time and it can sit for awhile.

The longer mine sits the more white film I get in my bucket. I try to use mine within a week or so of making it.
