Does standing water in a barrel go bad? I've had fresh water in my barrel which is reserved for water changes. Due to my busy scheduled, I have been unable to carry out a water change for a couple of months. Is it safe to use this water for a water change or has it become toxic?

Thanks in advance......

If it were me and it has been, I would smell it.
If it smells funky, has floaties or anything else that makes you wonder, toss it.

Or give some to the dog. If the dog gets sick, you'll know that the water has gone bad. ;-)

Yes, standing water goes bad, do not give it to anyone....I cannot believe it was suggested to give to a dog, so that pet, would suffer to see if your water is bad.....what a cruel and inhumane person.....Mike Vick's cousin, I would guess? Albeit, most likely sarcastic, I give him that....lol....i

Make y-not drink it......and hope he rots in hell...(if he was for real)... Lol

Does the barrel have a lid? If it was closed up, it shouldn't go bad - mix/aerate first, of course.

If it was open, I'd probably err on the side of caution and dump it.

POST#3. LOL^^^ it become from bad to baddest!!! Good call Ralph
I have been using standing 0 TDS water from my 25 gallon acrylic container to do water changes on my friend's tank, he's tank is freshwater BTW, haven't had sick fish or smelly water, but I'm sure I could make another batch of water and it could go bad, I think it depends on the material of the reservoir container.

It would appear that someone missed the joke.
It would also appear that the text emoticons that I used did not translate into the desired Smilie.

Yes, it was a joke. I do not know if the OP even has a dog.

I addressed his question with a serious answer then tossed in a joke at the end. Thus the ;-) at the end.

mysterybox, if you missed the joke part, I apologize for your loss.

I agree with JennM (rather, she agreed with me) when I mentioned that if it "makes you wonder, toss it".

BTW, if you need a drink, I'm buying. <--Another joke.

"When in doubt, throw it out."

I got the joke. Perhaps we should have had Ralph drink it first, to see...

Careful Jenn, you'll need to be very, very careful when you joke around.
Some folks may not get it. :)

Who said I was joking?

Doh!

BTW, I need to ask you about something we bought from you. I'll PM you the question.

I apologize too, I got the joke, I wasn't saying that in a bad fashion, and I know the sarcastic humor of some fellas here, I couldn't be irritated now that I been reading their post with their sense of humor! Makes me smile the most of the times, specially when old reefers joke between each other! :D

that was mean......lol

I didn't say I was joking, but didn't say I wasn't, either. C'mon Ralph - give it a go - where's your sense of adventure? You'd be saving some fish, and maybe a dog... :p

Y-Not - I sent you a reply. Sorry, was out for a while - doing stuff not-fish-related... still getting used to that... it's fun :D
