Water filtration question

I always make my own RO/DI water however, Douglas County has issued a boil your water advisery. Would typical RO/DI filtration cover this advisery for both my tank and myself? I believe the answer to be yes but I just want to be sure before I start making my next batch of water.

Thanks. That's kind of what I was wondering. Looks like i'll have to buy some RO/DI this week and for who knows how long.

Probably best to be safe, but bacteria are typically much larger than anything else that a proper RO membrane stops...
The feared pollution when flooding is usually E. Coli

Like Robb said, E coli is the big concern. E coli is from feces; I don't care if a rodi will take care of it or not, boil it! Also, you don't want to drink rodi. RO, sure, but DI, not so much.

If I were you, I'd just buy drinking water from the store.

I don't know for sure this is just my 2 cents. I have a small water purification unit for backpacking and camping. It is a small RO unit that you manually pump water through. It states that it does remove e-coli, giarida etc. I haven't put it to the test though. I have read in some places that i can't find right know that people should avoid drinking DI water which most of our units have. Not saying it would be safe to use our RO/DI for drinking water instead of boiling, like i said, just my 2 cents.

I can't find the report that i read that mentioned it. DI water does taste kind of strange though, i've tried it at work. We use it at work to clean some parts and we were told at work not to drink it so naturally i had to try it. I'll do some more searching and post the report if i can find it.

Slight hijack, sorry :)

I don't think it's harmful per se, but just not disireable. It's stripped of everything, so there's no flavor or anything. It should taste pretty gross.

Or, it could be that it's so pure, that it's bad for you! :confused2:

This is the only thing i'm coming up with. Its not the scientific article i remember but the point is the same. In short some people are saying that DI water is highly reactive and strips minerals out of the body. But as in most subjects there is a controversy about weather it is actually "harmful" to you. From personal experience it tastes terrible though.

The osmotic pressure would actually cause human flesh cells to literally explode.
Water with no dissolved solids would try to level the osmotic pressure by "watering down" the liquid in the body cells - too bad they can only accept so much before their membrane ruptures.

Of course this won't happen after one glass of RODI - but constant use might lead there at some point.
