Water not clear.

So for some reason I cannot get my water completly clear. It's not cloudy, there are just particles floating around throughout the tank. I run a filter sock, as well as a sponge in the bubble trap (clean it when I do water changes). What can I do to fix this? Maybe run a second filter sock in a baffle before the return?

Fine sand or you didn't wash.

Sand as been in the tank for over 6 months and it's super large grain sand, almost crushed coral. I actually HATE my sand and am slowing siphoning it out week by week. I went by rits the other day and saw the like 5 biocubes he has set up and his all look 100% clear, I have even siphoned out all the debris on the bottom of the second and thrid chamber on the last water change.

I run a similar set up but with additional sponges right before the return pump and I still have the same issues.

same issue here. i have lr and rubble in my sump as well as a filter sock. Chalked it up to fish stirring the sand and debris is released in the water column. In the morning before my fish wake, my water is crystal clear and it makes me so mad haha.

Oh and I run matrix in the second chamber as well. I think I might try running the water level in the second and third compartments at the same level as the first. I am just tired of looking at the crap though.

Ask to rent/ borrow a water polisher. Magnum 350 worked like a champ for me. I was having the same problem not too long ago and didn't want to use chemicals .

This is where I would check. Fine micro bubbles will make the water look cloudy and it can be difficult to tell if that is the problem. If you have power heads running in the tank, turn off the return pump and see if it clears up.

Check the return section where the water flows over the last barrier before the return pump and make sure there aren't some bubbles still there. If there are, try to turn the input to the pump so it is away from them.

I have this issue as well. I wouldn't think that it would be air bubbles as they would have to travel from the second chamber over to the third. I've assumed mine was just sand.

Alright, after a lot of research I think I have figured everything out. The 90 elbow on the false wall return needs to be removed. I replaced it with just a 5/8 ID vynal hose. It does bend some but it does not kink the hose to restrict water flow, it actually increased the water flow out of my Maxi-jet 1100 (same as a mj1200 just the utility pump version). After that I had to take off the screw on the intake that reduces the water flow. Doing both of these things cured my micro bubble issues.

Make sure when you go buy the hose you get a coupling that goes from 1/2 in to 3/4 because most Maxi-jets have a 1/2 output. Luckily my utility pump has both a 1/2 and a 3/4.

This fix cost me >$2.00. Which is awesome!

I dropped my Y outlet and just went back to the basic BC outlet and mine is much more clear. I was getting some gunk built up in the loc-line I think.
