I have a 120g mixed reef, and have been fighting an outbreak of cyno with a little bit of green hair algae. Here are my water params this morning before I did a 20g w/c.

No2 = 0.05
pH = 8.0
Alk = 1.8
No3 = 5-10
Nh3 / Nh4 = 0
Ca = 450
Mg = 1650

Nutrient removal:
reef octopus 160 extreme skimmer with the purple pinwheel mod
40w emperor aquatics U/V
Running BioPellets in a reactor (carbon based vodka pellets)
bag of purigen
mechanical filtration using a mesh filter sock

Do you guys have any suggestions on what I could do to help increase nutrient removal / battle cyno?

Thanks!
Mike

My parameters are perfect and I have been fighting cyano for several months. I even tested my kits with the calibration/control fluid, bought a second tds meter to ensure my inline one was working, turned-off lights for several days, all the regular cyano-defeating protocol.....

too bad it can't be used to fuel a car!

Sometimes cyano can grow from the spectrum of your bulbs. Older bulbs usually promote cyano due to the decrease in actual output over time. You may want to try raising the ALK just a bit too.

raise you alk to at least 2.5 meg/L and 3.0 even better.

more frequent larger water changes, carbon, gfo..........raise you flow......if all else fails, chemi-clean works if you are very careful.

Yeah, I'm hesitant on using chemi-clean at this point running carbon. I dont want to kill off any beneficial bacteria strains.

I tried chemi-clean once, and it worked like a charm, but my skimmer was out of commission for a few weeks.

Yep, I have ben raising the alk and I replaced my bulbs at exactly one year with the original tubes that came with the fixture. Maybe, it's the alk/ph.

When i had a tad bit pop up, i started using Balance by Aquavitro, and it seemed to take care of it within a day or so.
