I've tried them. I found Geissman & ATI to be better. FWIW, going with the best bulbs will serve you well.

was told by jen they are as good as geissman.. but they are the price of ati..

Nothing wrong with Giesmann.. we just prefer the Wavepoints. We have them on our display, one can judge for oneself.

I'd have to disagree with that sentiment. Geissman are pricey, yes, but they're stout. You're not going to find an equal lamp for considerably less.

My favorite is actually a mix of lamps. KZ fiji purple, geissman actinic plus, UVL daylight (sun something)...

I found the wavepoints to be similar to aquaticife lamps. They're fine, just no geissman. I'd check out Jenn's display and see of they suit your fancy. If so, don't worry yourself with anybody else's opinion..afterall, you're the one who has to look at the tank!

On that we can agree to disagree...

On that I heartily disagree. We don't like the AquaticLife lamps at all. Fixtures are fine - but the stock lamps, meh, not so much.

Amen. Lighting can be very subjective, insofar as what is more aesthetically pleasing from one person to another.

I've seen people state that they got better growth with this or that - but that too is subjective unless one has actually done a controlled experiment. Lots of factors play into growth, light being only one of those factors.

If you have the luxury of time and money to play with different brands/combinations, then go for it. I had someone literally order dozens of different lamps (large system - holds lots of lamps) - so he could try different combinations to find the mix that suited him.

I have seen that tank numerous times and if it is substandard in any way I would just say "Some day I hope to be substandard". But that is just my opinion.

Short term memory issues? Lay off the mustard.

Hey it has been a year. LOL. You get to be my age and that is an eternity to remember something. :-)

I can't believe I set you up with the "I hope to be substandard" comment and you let it slide. See if I give you any more gifts. LOL. I fully expect to see that as Ben's signature shortly. Hehehehehehe

hehe..won't be the first time! :)

I've always found German lamps to be the best and chinese the worst. Quality control and consistency is huge for me and the Giesemann lamps fit that bill. I didn't check where wavepoint lamps are made.

SOmebody mentioned UVL. UVL lamps are pretty decent lamps, especially for the money. QC is good with them; they're consistent. As a bonus, they're made in the USA!

I'm with you there. Don't care for the AL lamps; don't care for the wavepoint either. But as I said before, it's all about what you personally like. I'll bet AL lamps are chinese lamps (can you tell I'm not a fan of chinese products yet?)

Yep. Too many people get caught up on what's supposed to be the best lamp and what's the most popular; or what puts out the most par, etc. Growth and par is irrelevant if you don't like what you see. If the colours work for you, Go for it.

It's always good to have goals, Rich. And with hard work and perseverance, one day you'll make it to mediocrity. :lol2:

Long story short: Buy whatever looks good to you and fits your budget. And don't support china if you can at all help it!

Not a big fan of Chinese made stuff either... hard to avoid for some products.

When I'm back in the shop I'm going to have a look and see if the lamps have a country of manufacture listed on them. Now I'm curious.

I do know that at trade shows, I've seen Wavepoints on display, beside Giesemann's (they use them to compare). Of course, with the naked eye it's difficult to tell one from another...

I'll try to remember to see where the Wavepoints are made (nothing on their website), and post.
