Ok we are talking to some friends about their tank but they have a weird thing going on they have a 120 gallon show tank been up since June of 2009. They have a 15 or 20 gallon sump, a chiller, skimmer, sterilizer. UV sterilizer bulb changed out 2 months ago. The tank has had total of 11 fish and has lost 6 of those 11 fish. The nitrates and nitrites are 0 and ph are 8-8.1, saliity 1.024-1.025, magnesium 1250, dKH 8.3. Had a little bout with ick but cleared up. Symptoms always the same fish are always fine ...fine ...fine then they lose appetite then typically 48 hours they die. No physical ailments noticed. Everyone they talk to is at a lost water test are perfect.

What test kits are being used. I've never seen nitrates or phosphates appear on API test kits. Best thing to do in my opinion is make sure they have good test kits, then let the system sit for at least a month without any fish, and run a polyfilter and/or carbon.

Stray voltage would have signs like darting and fin deterioration. (I thought about that)....

Munchausen By Proxy ?

Sorry to make a joke, I'm baffled......

Forgot to add that the algae in his tank is thick and thick green. We do not feel any surge in the water and they use the Salifert test kits.

What kinds of fish are you losing, and how long do you have them before they perish?

Dino is known to kill fish if it gets terribly out of control, but it doesn't sound like that either

Poo looks normal as far as we can see. Just got back from hanging out at Pure Reef, Jorge,Chris and Angela are awesome. We were talking about the the types of fish that died, all are algae eaters. So after talking to George he is going to look more into the type of algea (dyfl ......) and see if it is the algae that is killing them. Thank you everyone for helping us out.

could be intestinal worms/parasites. It wouldn't hurt to treat with prazi pro 3 x's.
