I havent had ick in a tank since i started back up. Yesterday i got a small blue tang. (yes i know i shouldnt have a tang in a tank my size but its really small and will be years before its too large for my tank.) Anyways he was fine at the store, eating, all the fish looked fine. Brought him home, acclimated him for about an hour and a half and then put him in the tank and turned off the lights for a few hours. He was fine yesterday, hid for a while, then came out and was swimming around fine. This morning he is covered from head to fin in ick. None of my other fish have had ick, so im really worried about it spreading. I dont have a quarantine tank, and copper is out of the question. Best thing i can think of is a fresh water dip, any other suggestions?

Speaking from my own experience only this is what I do...I am battling ich right now too...

Is he accepting food? If so keep feeding, heavy. As long as they eat they should be able to fight it off. I have also bumped up the temp a couple degrees, slowly. I also feed a mixture of mysis, nori strips, and pellets soaked in vitachem, Metrodozinole & Focus (2 seperate products made by Seachem). I make a food paste with all of this and add a touch of garlic guard and feed that several times a day until its gone. Lights out is good too to keep stress down. This is just what I do, my regal has had ich more times I can count and has made it thru every time *knocks on wood*.

+1

He is really covered! Give Dr. G's Anti Parasitic formula, worked great for me.

no i fed this morning and he didnt try to eat. he seems weak. i just cant believe how covered he became overnight. Thanks for the help guys i appreciate it! Hope the little guy can fight it off, hes really beautiful and my first tang. Id hate to lose him. I see Dr G's is frozen so i cant buy it online. What store do u get it from?

Yup Pure Reef carries it. Problem is he isn't eating, if he's not accepting food he is used to, he definitely won't eat that. At this point he needs to quarantined with copper, even then it looks slim he'll make it.

I agree that if he is not eating, it'll be tough. MPO..QT him and start using Cuprimine. I normally do not believe in chemicals but this sounds like a last resort situation. Keep the lights low or off to prevent undue stress.

Good luck...

i mixed frozen food with focus, metronidazole and garlic and fed twice a day for 3 weeks...during this time i also got one of those hand held siphons for water changes that have the sand cleaner tube on the end...when i saw that some of the ich had fallen off the fish i siphoned the sand...this worked great
