What are my options

<span style="font-family: Times New Roman;">I currently have 150 gal tank that has been drilled. I have a few tangs, foxface, 2 anemones and a few corals. So I don't have a protein skimmer. My water quality if fine, only problem is that I have green algae that grows every day. Its mostly on the glass. I am using a tek 5 with 8 bulbs. So I figured I should get a protein skimmer only problem is that I don't have enough room to put on into my sump, so I figured I can get a hang on one. Any recommendations?</span></span>

Another alternative, if you have the space, is an external skimmer. There are quite a few different types of skimmers that can be installed outside of the sump.

Hang on skimmers are decent for smaller tanks. I'd agree with these guys and go with an external one. If you do get a hang on skimmer, make sure it's rated for at LEAST 200 gallons.

I will look into that, I don't have that much space underneath my stand. I might have to run some piping if I go that route. Thanks

I was looking at a Turbo Flotor multi sl 1000. Its rated for 250 gallons. Do you think that would work. I could use it as a hang on or on the side of the sump. I was thinking about drilling 3 holes in my stand and have the pump submerged in the sump and run some plumbing to the skimmer. And have the water flow back in to the skimmer. Would that cause any changes in the efficiency of the skimmer?

The ADHI sump/fuge has a spot just for your skimmer? It is designed for a G series skimmer. The first chamber is where it is suposed to go.

Yea the first chamber is has lots of space, if I'd put a skimmer their before I put my tank on the stand then I would be good. So I decided to just put a uv light in that chamber. I took the sleeve off of a turbo twist and just have the light in their. The ADHI fuge has a pre drilled hole at the return chamber but I don't think i would want to put the skimmer there. I have a bunch stuff growing there. Not sure what they are but they are little pods that are everywhere in the chamber.

Not sure that UV just kinda in there is exactly safe.. I've been wrong before though..

Well the UV light is in a glass tube and is being held up with some pvc pipes. I don't look at the light since its underneath the tank. Its been like that for about 6 months and I don't have any problems. But I do see the concers and will keep a good eye on it. :thumbs:

A HOB skimmer isn't going to cut it for this size tank.

As the others have suggested, get a good external skimmer. From what I remember, in order for the mud system to be effective, you need quite a bit of it. I don't buy into that system, but I would think you'd need more than what can fit in your current sump.

Dismantling a UV is not a good idea. Why would you even do that? I would strongly suggest using it as it was built to be used. Anything else is only asking for trouble.

For a smaller sump, a Tunze skimmer might be an option. The Tunze 9010 (9011 is the new model of the 9010) might be an "ok" for your tank. They are very small but do a decent job. It would depend on your planned bioload and feeding habits on whether the Tunze would keep up though. For the size, they do an amazing job, but there is no way they should be compared to a large powerful external skimmer.
