My new tank is just now getting to the point to where I can start putting a fish in it. Problem is the tank is only 35 gallons. No coral at this point, just fish. At some point we night but right now this is a project for be and my 6 year old.

This started because he wants nemo.

What other fish are good for smaller tanks? Also wanted to get a blue tang (dory) but have read they need large tanks. Wouldn't that be for full grown though?

Thanks,
Seth

at any stage the tang will need bigger than your set up..firefish are good for small tanks..some wrasses..look at live aquarias nano section for a good database of fish to look for at your LFS..

I have a six line with a firefish and they do great together.

No, there is no guarantee that a clown will host in a nem, I have 2 clowns and 4 nems and my clowns don't even look at them.

Since he wants nemo.....that might have to be my next fish then.

Easy to start with?

Looks like my 35 would be enough and they are listed as " easy"

I have 2 clowns, 3 bangai cardinals, 1 midas blenny and 1 flame angel in my 29 Biocube.

Very nice tank.

Have you had any issues with the flame angel? Online it says a minimum 70 gallon tank.

Also just out of curiosity, why 3x Bangai cardinals? Are they school fish? We only bought one and it doesn't swim around at all. Just sort of stays on a corner. Wondering if we should have gotten more than one

Thanks.
Flame has been fine, I try to keep him well fed.
The bangais should be in at least a pair, I bought 3 hoping a female and male would emerge as I could not identify sex.

Get some of the nano gobies. That way you can have multiple smaller fish in your system. They are normally at 1-2 in max in size.

And as a nemo fish:

+1 I was expecting my clowns to host as well....failed

Coop: Don't you have a diaper to change?

I've been having the water tested from the lfs. After putting the skimmer on the numbers have seemed to stabilize.

But not to get too far off topic, what is a good test to buy?

I really like the Red Sea line of test kits - Easy to use and easy to read.
