What could these be?

I just flipped over a frag of montipora I recently got, and noticed these little guys. They kind of look like knock-off Berghia Nudis. Are they something I need to worry about? They are in my little Deskmate that doesn’t have much right now, but I did just put a YWG+pistol shrimp in there and have some coral coming tomorrow from the corals.com gift card I won that my daughter picked out to go in there.

Monti eating nudi
It’s already gone. Just a small frag of red monti, not worth the hassle. Looks like I caught it before it became a problem, as there are no eggs or nudis anywhere else on the surrounding rock it was resting on.

I just went through a spell of these that wiped out every SPS I have. Apparently when they finish the montipora they typically spread especially to stylophora/pocilloporas.

Probably the worst experience I’ve had in reefing this far.

Make sure you’re routinely dipping other montis or sps that were with it for the next few weeks because they reproduce like crazy. Their egg sacks don’t die in the dips of course which makes it more difficult.
Even whilst dipping mine routinely they still didn’t make it.

I haven’t noticed any others since removing the piece that had them. Every SPS I have is growing great, so I must have caught them before they could really do any damage

These will only bother (kill) montiporia (all types), they will not bother other SPS like acroporia.

Once these are spotted in a tank the only way to eradicate them is to let the tank go fallow from ANY montiproa for 6 months to be sure. Yes you can dip, and dip, and dip some more but dipping only kills the nudis but does nothing to the eggs. If you have adults then you also have eggs, most likely lots of eggs. These are horrible to deal with.

Also you should let the person know who you got the frag from otherwise they will spread this like a plague to other members...

Good, I’m glad they didn’t cause any more damage. Keep an eye out just to be safe. They annihilated my stuff.

I had some on anacropora, and a pocillopora as well. Really bizarre. They started on the montipora of course but spread
