The converse of that, i was over at a fellow reefer's house recently who had always had egg crate over his tank, and when he took it off, his corals couldn't handle the light.

We have a canopy that covers the front of the tank and the top. There is a 3" wide gap at the back we cut egg crate down to cover it so it doesnt mess up the light.
