What do you use for Ca and Alk in your tanks?

I don't trust it closed loop either, which is why I have it set to dose just what I think it needs to keep things stable, but then just a little more. 90% of the time the doser is on, and any overshoot is pretty mild. I have run into problems where the alerts that my reagents were low were turned off and I didn't notice. There were no measurements for several days, so the doser stayed on when it shouldn't have. Alk got higher than I would like, but I haven't had any problems resulting from that. I've got plenty of problems, just not from that...

So, if I understand it, you have closed loop using the Trident alk reading as a feedback, just with the dosing somewhat rate limited?

Right. The individual dosage amount and schedule does not vary based on the measurement, a few doses just happen or not. I have the doser set to 12 doses per day, something like 8ml each. If a measurement is high, the doser turns off for 6 hours, during which the tank will consume 0.2 to 0.5 dKH and usually drop the measurement back into the range where the doser turns on again. Even days where the doser is on 100% of the time and everything is in range, I see measurement swings of up to +/- 0.3 dKh throughout the day. The curse of 4x daily Alk measurements is that I can see all this going on. Before the Trident, Alk would have been all over the place-- I just wouldn't have known. I have alarms set for greater than 1.0 dKh above or below target. That is just one day's consumption. I get them rarely, and seems like only when I'm away from home...

About a month ago I switched to All for reef, dosing based off Calcium. In order to maintain Alk I supplement with a soda ash solution. I have noticed my coral seems to be more colorful than when I was dosing with just 2 part.
