I have a couple heaters in now but would like to just have 1. What heaters are you guys using for 200+ gallon systems?

It is best to split heaters up that way if one goes bad then you have a backup

3 watts per gallon....so around 600 watts total. I'd go with 2 300W heaters.

I am planning to use this Process Tech titanium 1000 watt heater (115v): http://www.aquaticeco.com/subcategories/3033/Process-Tech-1000-Watt-Heater/1000%20heater/0">http://www.aquaticeco.com/subcategories/3033/Process-Tech-1000-Watt-Heater/1000%20heater/0</a>

It requires a temperature controller. I will run mine off of a Ranco temperature controller.

I have 3 heaters in my 180 with a 55 gallon sump.

I use a single 300 wat titanium heating element controlled by my Oceanic chiller for my 210 gallon reef.

Some of these heating estimates posted seem way overkill to me. The equipment in my reef boosts temps as it is, and my heater is not on very much at all.

I have a 265 gallon planted tank with three 250 watt halides, and a single Stealth 250 watter keeps tank temp at 77 degrees no problem.

My tanks are in my basement, so I don't know if that makes their temps a bit more stable or not?

So I actually did something right by accident? Sweet. Thanks guys. hahahaha, makes sense.

My Sumps are in my basement as well and with the weather changing cooler I definitely saw a temp drop in my tank especially when my MH lights were off. I forgot I unplugged my heaters during the summer to use the outlets for something else.....I have 3 250 watt Visi-Therm Stealth Heaters that are working great. And they keep a nice steady temp in the tank. Best of luck.

+1 on the multiple smaller heaters. If one... no.... WHEN one sticks on, it won't fry your tank like a single 1000W heater would...
