<span style="color: black;">MACNA stands for Marine Aquarium Conference of North America. To my knowledge it's the largest marine aquarium conference in North America. The Atlanta Reef Club has been granted the opportunity to host the 20th Anniversary MACNA in 2008 so we are going to make it the best MACNA ever. MACNA 2007 is being hosted in Pittsburg so if you feel like taking a vacation in September you should check it out.</span>

Great question Victor!

MACNA is the acronynm for "Marine Aquarium Conference of North America" which is the largest single gathering in North America (~1,000) of marine aquarium hobbyists, researchers, and professionals to learn the latest findings related to the marine aquarium hobby. It also includes a tradeshow including ~100 vendors. It runs from Friday thru Sunday and always occurs in either Sept or Oct.

MASNA on the other hand is "Marine Aquarium Societies of North America, Inc.". MASNA is a non-profit organization that holds title to the MACNA conference and determines where and who holds the MACNA conference.

It's all very similiar to the Olympics.

Just as the International Olympic Committee receives bids from various cities to hold the Olympics, MASNA receives bids from clubs to hold MACNA.

Clubs stand to gain both prestige and financially by hosting MACNA, just like the Olympics.
