What is this junk taking over my tank?!

I have some sort of grayish brown almost fuzzy looking stuff all over my live rock and I cannot get it to go away!! I took every single piece of live rock out of my 90 gallon and scrubbed it down just the other day and now it's back!!! I am guessing it must be hair algae but I am not sure. It even covers the sand and almost looks like dust everywhere. I am posting a picture of it on a small rock that my dendro is attached to. It's not the clearest pic but was the best I could get. This stuff never grows longer than about a quarter of an inch but it's everywhere and looks ugly! :grrr:

You can't see it on the full tank shot, that's why I took a pic up close. I can only see it starting to come back in spots, but it is coming back.

Do you have any tangs in your tank? Probably a simple algae, something they could feed on if your tank is large enough. If you have tangs in your tank then retract my advice.

I have a Regal tang, but of course those don't really do too much for algae! I do have a bunch of hermits, and astrea snails, and two turbo snails in there. Is there some type pf fish that would eat this stuff? I get so tired of looking at it, it's making my tank ugly and has started trying to cover some of my corals. I want to take care of this before it becomes a bigger issue...

These guys are great algae eaters.

yellow tang, kole tang, tomini tang, lawnmower blenny, foxface, bicolor blenny.

Well I know there was some hair algae on some of the rocks when I scrubbed them. Ever since my yellow tang disappeared this stuff has just gotten worse. Maybe it is the start of new hair algae that isn't being well controlled since there is nothing in the tank to eat it?

Yeah... if nothing eats the new stuff, it will keep growing and growing. Tangs and blennys do a great job at keeping it at bay once it gets beyond the capabilities of astreas and turbos.

If its literally everywhere, you could try a sea hare.
