Safe? There are a bunch of them growing
As far as I know all sponge is safe. I could be wrong. Maybe @ActiveAngel or @jcook54 knows better....

I'm with @bhodges82 . Definitely sponges. Yes, to a degree they are reef safe. Here's an article that appeared in Reef Builders two years ago.
