What is your Ideal Temperature?

I run 79.8-80.5 in the summer. My 1/3 Hp chiller just isnt big enough... but I cant afford a bigger one right now.

Ideal... I feel like 78 is a good comfortable temp, but thats really just me throwing a number out there.

mine runs 79-80 pretty consistantly, I read somewhere that at 81-82 SPS will grow like crazy. Have no idea if it is true or not.

Mine is 76 Wonder if i should hook up a heater to bump it up a few degrees

No!! From what I've read, things tend to be healthier and have better color at lower temps. My ideal temp is 72-74. Been running around 80 during the summer, but my heater hasn't clicked on since early May. I'll be investing in a chiller next spring to make sure I can keep my temps down next summer.

The range seems to be quite large. How much does the sea water vary in terms of temperature. To date, mine has crept up to 79. I don't have a chiller but I thought 80-82 was the ceiling. If mine does go beyond, it may creep up to 85 but I'm guessing at this stage since the tank hasn't gone through one summer yet. So, at what temperature does it become uncomfortable for the fish? What temperature is most comfortable for the fishes?

Tank stays pretty much where set at, so I haven't had to put much into maintaining temps in general (LED-lit, lidded quasi-cube). But 80F seems to be the "compromise" temp at which everything in the tanks stays happy.

But summer's coming, so I may have spoken too soon about how much work keeping it down will be...

There isn't a single temperature that makes fish uncomfortable. Each fish has different comfort zones. Some can't even tolerate the low end where we typically keep our systems and many stress out at the higher ends.

I generally keep my tank at 78F +/- 0.5F degrees with an alarm if it gets above 80F.

This has been a very good learning tool for me!I love seeing all the different temperatures and input.I have had a hard time trying to keep mine at what I thought was the perfect temperature 78 for the last 3 years. With out a chiller my tank gos up to about 81 82 with the lights on in the summer and down to about 78 79 with the lights out in the summer and pretty stable in the winter around 78 to 79.My temperature will be much more easy to keep at 80,and from what Ive learned it will be just fine, maybe even better since its more stable!Ty all.
