Trying to identify the red covering the rock and should I be concerned? If so, what should I do to get rid of it?

I agree it’s likely diatoms. Does it have any bubbles getting stuck under it or does it appear slimy/snotty at all? Is it worse later in the day after lights have been on awhile? How old is the tank? And did you start with dry rock or live rock?

Yeah definitely worse later in the day. I wouldn’t call it slimy. Tank is a few months old but it’s a rescue tank from someone who had it for years and I used the same rock they had and kept it wet until I got home

Yeah given the pics, age of the tank, and the additional details I’d say it’s almost certainly diatoms. They’re just part of the ugly phase unfortunately. You could try adding some live copepods, which will chow down on them. They’ll go away naturally on their own as the tank ages though.
