What size pump would you use?

I have a 150 gallon tank up and running and I think I need more water flow but not sure.Im using a mag 7,it seems to be working pretty good but from what I have been reading I might need a bigger pump.What would you use In a 150 with a 40 gallon sump?

sizing the pump needs to be as BIG as you can get, without running microbubbles back into your display tank..

(so realistically.. if you dont have a microbubble problem.. you're probably ok..)

Honestly for all intensive purposes if you have have alternative and sufficient flow then that is enough. Personally I would run nothing smaller than a mag9.5 in that setup. FWIW I'm a big fan of high turnover.

Im using the Blueline 55 HD External Aquarium Water Pump
on my 150 and its great but i also run a manifold to feed my frag, uv, and calc reactor.
Mines alittle too big i figured id be feeding alil more, whopps

FWIW, Sump size is a 55 gallon.

To accurately give you opinions we need more info on how your setup is configured. E.g. what powerheads if any, sump setup, how everything is ran and powered (Skimmer, uv, chiller....) ect

I have a 4o gallon sump,the over flows go to the return chamber,then the refuge and then the chamber with the pump in it.The sump has a hole for the pump to be external but I over tighten the nipple and broke the intake side of the pump so its in side the sump,does it make a difference?Then I have a 1 1/4 manifold with 4 valves but I'm only using the two that go to the tank.My skimmer is a hob in the return side.I need a bigger one,mines only rated for 125.

Look at my set up sprinkle for an example (sig - large tanks 230) but imo, your way under rated by using a mag 7. For reference, i think i used a mag 12 on a 120 but you should be using a pump that will create three to four times the turn over ratio just for the tank.
