Im looking for a skimmer for my 120g tank, 100g sump, and 20g fuge.It can be Internal or external .Its going in or next to a 100g rubermaid so the size of the size is not a factor. This going to be a heavy stocked tank.
Im looking for a new or used . I have 500.00 or so to spend.I have time to look for a good deal on a used skimmer or can buy a new one . Im looking at the Super Reef Octopus 5000 any other thoughts?

And actually, I think one of the sponsors just listed one for sale at $290, and you'll have enough left to get pumps and everything you need.

I found a new style mr2 local with dual becketts for 200.00 Just not sure I want to deal with having to clean becketts. I did think about it but never seen one in action.

if not mrc then look into euro reef, or whatever they are called now.

Not really into the Euro reef.I they look like the ASM but cost twice as much. If I went that way I would pick up a used Asm g4 for less then 200.

what about this? doesn't it include pump?

IMO stay away from sicce pumps. The work for a while but soon they will have start up issues. Also they suck to take apart. I just bought a Bubble Blaster 2000 for my Octo Extreme 160 and it's insane. I agree with the above statements on the euro reef. I've gone through many skimmers and so far the Octo/MSX line are some of the finest out there.

Now, both of them use the sicce pump but are now being released with the Bubble Blaster a.k.a. poor mans red dragon. Bubble King skimmers are nice, i've seen a few in person but IMO not worth their price unless you've got money to throw away. The MSX or Octo Extreme 200 with the bubble blaster 3000 is a sure fire way to a reliable skimmer that can deal with the kind of load you want. The pumps are around $200 and you can pick up a skimmer for about that. That would keep you under $500.

Or there is always this: <u>

ahhh, not euroreef, I was thinking about another skimmer. Those are made in Cali. Not a bad skimmer from the looks. I would bet the new Octo line skimmers would smash it though.

Yeah, but that seller is a jerk. I ordered something from there in June, he shipped it to the wrong address (e-mailed him w/in 5min of receiving the UPS notification that he left out part of my address), and when he did the "re-route" it added 2 days to the shipment and required me to be home to sign for it, and basically he told me to F*&% off after I asked for a partial refund on s/h because of the inconvenience (having to skip class to wait for UPS).

Maybe elos? I can attest to the quality of euro reef skimmers. Built great and are plug and play. ER also has a realistic rating scale from what I understand, so it makes it a little easier to pick one;) running ER now and it's been great for the past year;)

Oh, by no means was I trying to promote the seller. Buy from one of our sponsors for sure. Thanks for the heads up though, i won't order from them. Thanks.

For that price I could almost get this with the Bubble blaster pump .I think both skimmers use chinese pumps and the Octopus has a 10" body and ca eaisly handle 300 gallon frm what I have been reading.

That octopus 5000 is a good deal. I would get that if you have the budget for it. I am not so hook on namebrand or overpriced skimmers that you basically find the same at much lower price.

When you say "same", are you referring to quality or performance?
