Looking for all opinions. I have a 120 im slowly doing. Wanting to see what u would put on it. It is rr and 4'. Looking from bad to the bone and expensive to just enough and within most budgets. Only reason i say that is every now and then u can get one used :) thanks in advance.

Smallest i would use is a ro nw150

Edit: Smallest i would use is a ro nw150

I had a atb skimmer on my 120. It was a beast.

Rated for 200 and I truly believe it could handle more. Awesome skimmer.

Still have it for sale if you'd like to see it.

Eagle - what skimmer would u put on it? Kris could u send me the info. I am def going with a good skimmer.

The first question is....what kind of space do you have in your sump? Or do you want an external skimmer?

I use reef octopus, not cheap but it performs extremely well.

Here are a few that range in price....all IMO, are "bad to the bone" (links are just to see what they are, contact your LFS once oyu know what you want and they may be able to get a close price for you)

I want internal. The sump is a 40g breeder. I havent completed the baffles yet so im still wide open for space

I ran Octopus skimmers since pretty much day 1. Great skimmers for a good price. I now run a BK mini 200 and it's just amazing....completely different level of performance and craftsmanship, though, not cheap. The pump will really make a skimmer...make sure it's reliable, pulls some good numbers and low in wattage and you'll have a good skimmer.

Here's what I've got-

Yup and the SSS feature of it is very nice for sumps. I had the SRO 5000SSS...it was a MONSTER! The bubble blaster pumps are quite impressive. Great SCFH and relatively low wattage.

I've got an EV-180 for my 120. Never requires any kind of fiddling or adjustment. Its truely been 'set and forget', which is my kind of skimmer. Killer performance too, I believe. I previously used a reef octopus that I couldn't stand due to how finicky it was to get started.

The EV-180 also has a model with a john guest speed connector for ozone.

I was able to pick one up cheap for around $270 with a pump off ebay.

+1 I've got one on my 120 as well. Gives you the option of in sump or external running. I have dealt with their customer service and they are top notch. I bought the skimmer second hand and they still sent me their newest version nozzle free of charge to enhance performance. That's my kind of service.

I too have dealt with their customer service. They sent me new gaskets free of charge, even they knew I bought the skimmer second hand. Can't beat that.

Thanks for all the help. Im gonna loom up these skimmers. I def dont want have to keep dialing it in every day or week. Thats how my current one is. Very touchy

at risk of being called a fan boy I WILL SAY that the BubbleKing Mini200 is the best skimmer I've ever used. PERIOD. I have it on my 120 and it does a greats job :) At least worth a look.
