i have a 12 gal aqua pod, what will be a good clean up crew and were can i get it ofr a good price i live in lawrenceville and am not familiar with georgia so something local thats not the aviarium

Some Blue Leg Hermits and Turbo Snails and Nassarius snails I don't know whats around you though.

I could have some blue legs for you and am locat to L'Ville. I recomment a few red hermits, a peppermint shrimp, a few different types of snails (Certh, Astrata, Nasuress, etc..), that is about all you need for that small of thank.

If it were me, I would use etropicals.com. If you buy $60 in the a cleaner package, you get free shipping.

For me, I would get 16 nassarius ($16), 10 cerith ($10), 10 astrea ($12), 5 conchs ($17.50), 2 jumbo ceriths ($5).

For the fun factor look at pepperment shrimp if you have compatible tank mates.

Personally, I would avoid crabs since they can often be a bigger pain than they are worth. If you have bubble algae, you can try an emerald otherwise I would only get a crab if you like the look of them and I would not get anything with blue legs. Blue legs and electric blue legs are considered highly aggressive and are doing a number on my once HUGE population of nassarius snails. I used to have 100+ now I am down to 30ish. I am constantly pulling the aggressive suckers out and putting them into my sump.

I think Cameron misunderstood a little. Maybe thats what he got for his tank which is just an extra digit larger than the 12.

Doh! Don't know why I was thinking 30g and I was packing it full to get to that $60. I have a dozen conchs in my tank and next to the jumbos they are best cleaners I got. Always sweeping the sandbed. I would get one if you run a fine sandbed even in the nano. I would probably go with a dozen snails of various types, a conch couple pep shrimps maybe a couple dwarf red leg crabs and an emerald just for the viewing pleasure. Keep them fed though or they can and will go after your snails.

Well, I trust the people over at
janitor.html

Hmm, I think I read on RC's vendor review that aquacon is very bad with customer servie, someone even said their name is fitting as in "con aqua supplier". I have to find that thread.

This is great info. I figure my tank will be cycled by next weekend (hopefully cuz ammonia levels are starting to rise). Maybe I'll order from GARF. ..seems like a good deal.

I haven't ordered anything form AquaCon yet, but I was fairly satisfied with my saltwaterfish.com purchases; the prices were pretty good, mostly everything was very healthy (except for a sixth extra [out of a pack of five] shaving brush plant they included that died about 2 weeks after it arrived, but I still have five healthy ones), though with the exception of the mandarin dragonet, they were all very small.

GARF, however, I trust implicitly. Leroy and Sally Jo are extremely knowledgable, and tremendously helpful if you have any questions or problems; they're a research institute staffed by people who are passionate about what they do who only sell a few items in order to supplement their research and in order to encourage people to use aquacultured items whenever possible.

Just make sure to call them if you want a freebie tossed in - they almost always offer whenever I call to order, though your chances are 50/50 for an online purchase - tell 'em Rupert and CJ, the guys who keep ordering tons of janitors from them, sent ya (not that it'll make any difference) :D

If your tank is new, I'd suggest ordering some Garf Grunge as well; they included some as my freebie on my first order of janitors, which will do your tank a lot more good than a coral or two, which is not likely to survive long in a tank less than a month old. If you give them some brief details on your tnak, they'll custom-build you a janitor pack, usually, to fit your needs. Don't expect any starfish or nudi's or anything... Just a lot of really healthy, reef-safe hermits and various snails; other assorted micro-organisms, stars, etc., will show up in the grunge or grunge plus.

One other note about grunge - if you have lots of pretty fine white sand, you may want to consider digging your sandbed up and placing the grunge on the bottom of your tank, as the grunge is basically a coarse rubble. I poured mine in at the bank of the tank behind my liverock, but my diamond goby has since redistributed it all around my tank to his liking, and digging my sandbed up would likely kill my tank at this point (plenum), so I'd suggest considering doing so now before it's too late. If you do, go ahead and get a couple pounds worth, and not just the 1lb. freebie. Your tank will definitely thank you for it. Avoid introducing any new stock for a week, and you'll already see the results of the grunge alone.

Or, you can follow the method listed here for
a>, by which she is able to safely and successfully start introducing corals on day 14.

Good advise. I've no intention of adding corals for a while. I would like to get some snails and hermits just so I can see something moving around the tank, but of course not until there's food for them.

I've been looking at their site for some time. Unfortunately, it's a bit late for me to start a zero impact tank since I just bought my LR (which I assume came from the ocean but never asked). But I really like the idea and will probably use that as a guideline.

Anyway, I have every intention to get my CUC from them, at least to help fund their efforts.

Glad to hear that Loren! I, too, have a tank full of liverock, but I got it from a friend who was tearing down his tank just as we were setting ours up... It's already out of the ocean, and it's not as if it can be thrown back :D

Speaking of which, did anyone ever stop and wonder about all the saltwater fish and rock, etc., that wound up underwater during hurricane Katrina?

Anyway, good luck in your reefing; get us some pics of that tank!

ok so i think i figured out what i want for a clean up crew tell me what you think .I want 4nassarius 4astrea 4margarita snails 1 redscarlet hermit and a peppermint shrimp and maybe a cleaner shrimp ...........fish i plan on putting in there is 2 oc clowns and a ywm goby or a signal goby...........corals misc kind mostly zoos and softies and a frogspawn that i hope the clowns will host

let me quanitfy that, btw; I think the two clowns are too much... maybe a pair of small gobies... or a mandarin... or some seahorses, and then plenty of inverts... but you've just not got enough water volume (esp. with sand and rock) two support those two guys without a ton of work.

I honestly don't see why everyone seems so set on having a mated pair of clownfish with an anemone... esp. in little-bitty fishtanks... Was it Finding Nemo</em> that did it? In my (granted, limited) experience and from what most people tell me, clownfish are mean little buggers who are likely to terrorize other fish in the tank and even nip at you when you stick your hand in. Personally, I just want an anemone crab for my Sebae and leave well enough alone. I honesly don't think even my 50gal is really enough room for the other fish i think the tank needs</em> and a pair of clownfish and anemone.
