That post needs to be updated.
It does need to be updated..That post needs to be updated.
Since then we have added more value to being a supporting member.
We have 2 PAR Meters that Justin and I have been giving free par readings or rentals(with a deposit) to any supporting members. The list is long and backed up so in the past year the current Officers were able to get another 2 par meters donated to the club. This has greatly reduced the wait times. If you are on the list we apologize for the delay. We do this on our own time and have never charged the club for our gas or time.
We also have 2 sets of suction cups that have been used to help countless supporting members move their tanks. Unfortunately we may start having to charge a deposit for these as well due to them not being returned in a timely manner.
This was the first year the Atlanta Reef Club has given free passes for The Georgia Aquarium to our supporting membership. We are able to offer these because of our donations to help support this hobby and Reef conservation efforts.
Your membership dues are what make this possible.
I’m sure most of the BOD is tired of hearing me but since someone asked….
I want to start by saying I completely understand the logistics of any entity needing funds. It’s what keeps the boat floating per se. But a club, especially any filled with passionate member should offer more than a discount as incentives to become a paid member.
A lot of goals I wish to gain from the club initially was knowledge and I’m not even going to lie, cheap frags. During my tenure, I’ve been both paid member and a user. I’ve gain much from being the the club, hence why I was a paid member during that time.
With passing of time and generations, the club has changed. I feel a lot of new folks no longer develop bonds like the reefers or olde. We don’t look forward to meets for each other. Just “oh let’s see what’s cheap”. Not that we have had the ability to meet anyways due to Covid.
I’m not part of the elite paid member, but if the club made an announcement saying “Hey we are might shut down due to insufficient funds”, I’d donate. Here’s my 2 cent. Get money another way. Paid members are nice, but there are always fundraisers. Instead of pushing so hard for folks to pay for membership, why not ask for donations from users and members alike and hold an auction to raise funds. Why not ask for partial proceeds from events and outings to be donated . Offer involvement.
This is exactly what I was looking for. Suggestions on what can make the club betterOver the years I've been pretty low key in the group and sat back watching stupid drama unfold. I could care less about it, and most members are generally good, but sometimes mods/trustees/whatever you call em act a bit draconian.
Worth it for the free frags alone though tbh. Just dont get too involved with any rif raf you see.
So what would it take for you to become supporting member?I was a paying member for about 15 years. I let it laps and have not bothered to pay again because I dont see any value in it.
I use the site here and thats about it. The only event I go to is a frag swap once a year and you have to pay to enter anyway.
Back when we had cards(yeah remember those, I think Im still waiting for my 2016 card) You could easily get the 10% discount, but without the card it became a problem getting the 10% and I eventually just gave up asking. Now with todays economy I dont think asking for 10% off is helping support a local store.
So basically for me membership fee I get to edit my posts here. Not much value for a hermit like me.
So what would it take for you to become supporting member?
we talking senior or doggy daycare?Daycare? Is that on the table?
I run sweatshops. If they can work, I’ll pay YOUDaycare? Is that on the table?
I don't think I would be OK with you leaving your kid with someone for $30 a year lolDaycare? Is that on the table?
I completely agree about the meet ups. I hope there will be some in the coming year.I’m sure most of the BOD is tired of hearing me but since someone asked….
