What's the difference between 90 and 120 degree optics?

I'm ordering a Reefbreeder Photon 48 and I'm not sure what the difference in optics means. I have a standard 90 gallon tank, 48 in length and 24 deep.

I can put the light as low as a few inches off the water or up to 14 inches high if any of that matters.

90 is for deeper tanks, 120 for shallower to not zap the corals..

If you go with the 90 degree reefbreeders Leds you will be able to remove them and they become 120 degree optics. I had a a 90 gallon tall which was perfect for 90 degree. I ungraded to a 120 and removed the optics. They are simple to work on.
