What's the difference in 250 and 400 watt mh?

What's the difference in 250 and 400 watt mh?that is the fixtures. Obviously bulbs and ballists. But are the light fixtures them selves the same. Can I just change from 250 watt to 400 by changing bulbs and ballists or do I need new fixtures as well?

As always I know this sounds kinda of crazy. But I was just thinking?

The mogul base and hood can be used for both. I even have a ballast that is switchable from 250-400w

I at that. That's why I was asking. I have 250 watt de fixtures now. And was wnodering if these would work

150 Watts. LOL. Oh come on someone had to say it.

But I agree. The ballast and lamp must match but the base should be the same.
