Hi all,

I need some help identifying a hijacker. I recently purchased LR from an individual who had an outbreak of Aiptasia, but felt they had been eliminated. I took a chance on the rock because it was a great deal. Anyway, I'm cycling my tank and noticed these guys (see pics). Any ideas? My first thought was some sort of Caulastrea, but because of the previous Aiptasia problem and my total lack of knowledge, I'm a bit paranoid.

Looks like LPS, maybe a Plate coral/Tubastrea of some type.
I am going with Plate due to the skeletal structure.

I can't think of the name, but it's a non-photosynthetic coral, not very pretty but harmless

Something from the Tubastrea, dendro, sun coral family?

is it a white, anemone looking creature?

I think that I've got the same thing in my 30L FOWLR tank..

I had a thread here about it a year ago..

Yes, it has semi-transparent tentacles that can extend out about 1".

yup... if I remember correctly, they told me it was some kind of Australian anemone.. as stated above.. not gorgeous, but certainly not dangerous..

Anemone and calcerous doesn't go together...

HAHAHA!!!

i saw that the first time you posted... I'm only saying that's what "THEY" told me..

I have no clue..

:)

yeah i thought it looked kinda like Pseudocorynactis at first glance but not with the base and being all grouped like that....kinda cool looking lil things

Well the consensus seems to be that they're probably not harmful so I'll leave them be and see what happens. At any rate, they seem to be tough little guys.
