Whats wrong with my tank

Question for you. Whats your temp running, and how does it flux throughout the day. Also, whats your lighting schedule?

Best way is to check with a Par meter. I know I supplemented my LEDs in the rear with T5s and the reading is pretty shocking when I did the measurements.

Ha, after dosing AA's I am seeing some cyano in my sump. I am going to add a small powerhead in that compartment to increase the flow.

My temp is set at 79.0 and I think it rises to about 79.7 by the end of the day.

I would think my light setup should be fine. The ATI fixture with my bulb configuration seems to be a proven setup. I will start lowering the light again and see how things adjsut. But like I said before, my bubble tip seems to like to stay away from direct light hinting that I have plenty of light on the sandbed. I could be wrong though, maybe I have a picky anemone.

I read a great article in Coral about this.... A full spectrum is needed...I don't want to go find the article though;)

Plenty of people use the same bulb combo I use with the same fixture and have flourishing tanks. Its definitely not the bulbs themselves, too many people run the same setup.

I wanted to update this thread.

So my tank is now doing amazing. My alk was higher than I wanted so I let the tank ride for about 2-3 weeks with no water changes to allow the alk to drop. At the same time I had a small cyano outbreak so right before my water change I dosed with chemiclean with my skimmer off for 2-3 days.

After a 5g water change my alk was at a 8.5 and there was no cyano algae anymore. I did my regular test and noticed that my nitrates jumped up to about a 5ppm from a 0ppm according to Salifert. I assume this was from my skimmer being offline for a couple days and 3 weeks in between a water change.

What I was surprised about was my zoas started looking better and better. Deep bright colors, polyps fully open, and all my colonies went into a massive growth spurt. My red hornets in particular threw out 4 new polyp bumps within a week. The few started SPS I have are growing like never before as well.

So, either cyano was bothering corals, alk was too high, or I had so little nutrients that the corals were starving. Either way I'm excited.
