What's your saltwater pet peeve?

people that will pay $500 for a frag but won't drive 10 minutes to get it because of "gas prices." maybe not a "saltwater" pet peeve but a pet peeve none the less...

J.B. +1 million

People that tell you that you can't do something then you ask them if they tried and they say no "I read it on the Internet".

That's too funny I know what your talking about has happened to me as well !

people that are struggling to meet ends and are complaining about it and asking for help and on other threads they are actively upgrading their tank and buying expensive (or any in a lot of cases) livestock/equipment

macro algae in displays

people who look for that one person that had some luck with a fish/coral to justify trying should not be in their tank and go against the many many people telling them not to do it

Can someone make a smiley that that would resemble someone trying to stir a pot. Think that would be used quite often.

"Allergy eater" and "progressive fish".... Seriously... it happens. Ask anyone that has been in the industry for a while.

Edit: Some folks think that we make a salt water pleco as well...

People that say that they get a bad batch of Salinity but never do like the company asks and sends in a sample. It would really help the rest of the people out that use the product.

Not sure about progressive fish - I haven't heard that one but many, many allergy eaters!

I could write a book about mispronunciations.

The funniest one ever though (and I posted this story not too long ago) was the young man who wanted to buy a bubble-tipped ENEMA....

I nearly died. :lol2:

User error - what Smallblock said about Salinity, for example - it's easy and convenient to blame a product, rather than acknowledge something else might have been done wrong, but yes, if one doesn't follow through like the manufacturer asks, that peeves me.

Do keep in mind that there are things outside of what we know, and so it's unknown whether it's user error or not.

Case in point: I wholeheartedly believe I had a bad batch of Salinity salt (two barrels worth). Crashed my tank. I changed out almost everything in the tank that could be remotely affecting it. After 6-8 months of fighting that, I did several large WC's using Instant Ocean instead, and the corals did better the following days, and continued to improve over time. I contacted Seachem, sent them several samples, and they couldn't find any problems.

One salt killed my coral and another didn't, after eliminating everything else. Maybe it was something in my tank that interacted weird with Salinity. Maybe it was user error. Either way, I think it falls in the realm of trace elements and interactions that we're simply not aware of, and I believe I got bitten by it.

Just make sure that if you hear someone complaining about brand XYZ, you get the full story and decide for yourself.
