throw away anything including the branch. I will buy a large colony then cut off a branch then cut the branch down even further to were there are only a few heads left on each frag. Sometimes I will have a short piece of branch left over. Say 1/2" to 3/4", no heads, no attachment to the mother colony at all. I will place on egg crate and wait 2-3 weeks. The branch will grow heads back. I cannot believe I use to pitch the small pieces of branch. Truly amazing how coral can reproduce.

This picture is of a head coming back from a branch that is still attached to the Mother colony

This is of a piece about 1/2" in length, you can see the tiny mouth forming on the end of the branch

Another small piece of branch, looks like 3 heads forming from just on branch tip. One that is defined and the others small but forming.

That's pretty cool! This will be useful info if my Duncan coral ever grows a branch!!! I'm up to 9 heads now (including babies) and it is just starting to show signs of a branch growing.

Wow! Awesome and good to know. I wonder how many people and lfs are throwing away good potential corals lol

That is really cool I wonder if the same would happen with a frogspawn or hammer?

Just a little followup

After cutting the head off of this branch I cut the branch down the middle. Three heads now forming from the cut area.
