standing over one tank... breathing in algae particles...
then standing over the other tank.. breathing out the particles onto the "sterile" system..
You can make the the water sterile but what about the spores attached to the tank?Rbredding;646528 wrote: you CAN make a tank sterile.. .
just run 100% of the water in the tank through a 300W UV Sterilizer every 2 hours...
that should do it..

darn.. where was I' ?
Absolutely. The tds meters that we use even at 0 does not represent totally 100% purified water. You can get closer with distilled water but even then it would have to be a sterile system.LilRobb;646558 wrote: Really? Solids do pass through filters and membranes?
JJ Ocean;646476 wrote: My view is that you can never make the tank sterile. All it takes is one cell. Bleached rock, salt mix and anything else that comes in contact with your tank has the potential to carry an algae cell and most definitely does. It is all of those items that are seeding your tank.
That being said, if you don't introduce livestock that carries other algae, I feel the types of algae that grow in your "sterile" tank will be limited ... diatoms, slime, cyno, etc.
Just my opinion.
