Which Controller Do you have?

gnashty;561361 wrote: nah, still in beta - although being able to control it via web has its own set of challenges too I assume. I mean suppose you get "the call" (got many myself) and you need to step in - that is assuming you are in a position to drop everything, get to a connection, log in, and hit a few keys....she could have already unplugged or adjusted whatever needed adjusting - im sure it has way more advantages though....cant wait

?

why?

with float switches sensing high water in the overflow and/or low water in the sump... the Apex will send me a txtmsg (by verizon's email to txt feature) to let me know that I need to turn off the return pump..

my setup will let me know before the wife freaks out..

Or sensing water on the floor through one of these http://www.grisk.com/specialty/pdf/2800%20water%20sensor.pdf">http://www.grisk.com/specialty/pdf/2800%20water%20sensor.pdf</a>

Also, how about getting a email saying the pH in your CA reactor is low, or even that your tank pH is low and being able to turn off the CO2 to your reactor until you can get home to check it without involving the wife or better yet when NOBODY is home... Priceless.

it opens up more options..

I didn't realize that you STILL couldn't do it with an RKL or RKE.. I'm surprised.. I thought that by now the DA controllers would have "controllability over the net"

with that option being standard on the Apex & Apex Lite.. why would anyone look at another controller? (if you're even thinking about spending that kind of money)

Well... DA supporters say that the new MyReef will address that missing component... but I think they've been waiting since Al Gore created the internet for that new release.

Al Gore created the internet in the early 90's (before he was in office)..

DA announced that MyReef2 was "coming" 4 months ago..

... sarcasm....

Yeah, its "coming" and when it does I have a feeling its going to be EPIC!! and if its not I will toss my RKE in the garbage and get an APEX.

Ive went thru the features and looked at screenshots and functionality and it looks absoltuely amazing.....with livestock tracking, maintenence reminders, web control, very desireable looking screens and just very pleasing to the eye....that being said I have never seen any APEX screens or anything so i am not comparing

Nothing earth shattering... but here's my Aquanotes program from my Iphone (didnt realize that the iphone pics would be quite so big):

Main screen for multiple controllers... if you can afford to roll like that:

Controller info screen:

Outlet control screen:

Typical graph screen (can be day, week or month)... this is for a day:

Feed programs (you can use these to run pumps on different programs for feeding or to do things like waterchanges and maintenance):

Holy huge screen shots Batman... :)

yeah I was going to say... "how often are screenshots 300% of actual screen size"...

DONT THROW IT OUT...I'll take it.. it'll run my fish only in the kitchen just fine....

bottom line is that software messes up more often than hardware... and DA isn't great when it comes to fixing it's hardware issues, much less it's software issues (well I guess firmware has been the issue with previous releases)

My question is why you need to get the e-mail to do anything? Why not have the system set up so that if the pH gets too low in the tank because of the CA reactor, the system can kill the feed to the reactor, or if the pH is too high from a kalk drip, the system will shut off flow to the kalk reactor.

Aside from being able to sit on the couch and play with the lights and pumps from my iPod, why not just make the system so that it's self sustaining, and e-mails don't require action but instead are just a "heads up" to what happened.

I think that would be great, although a probe error could inturn do great harm.

This is exactly the goal. However, all these safeguards take time to discover and build in to the system. At least initially, until the safeguards and proper programming can be built, there needs to be a manual over-ride (human operator). Each time something goes wrong, you update the system to handle that condition.

it would be nice to get the email/text to approve the "suggestion" made by your programming. just click accept and it performs the suggestion or maybe even gives a range of suggestions depending on the alert.

I've got two right now and both work pretty well. The Reef fanatic is what I'm running now to control my calcium reactor and I also have a reef keeper 2 that I had to send back to replace the LCD screen since it blacked out on me. Both work well and easy to calibrate.

I have not bought one yet for my 180 gal tank. I have been watching all this. But now I am confused. About the 2 different controllers.

RKE and a Apex Lite System

Can any one tell me what the big differences are ?

Is this a good deal? http://www.toofishy.com/product.php?productid=92128&cat=684&page=1">http://www.toofishy.com/product.php?productid=92128&cat=684&page=1</a>

Which one does it compare to in the Reef keeper kind? Choices what to do????

Thank you. Bruce
