I am transferring from a 55gal to a 58gal/sump with a canopy and am wondering if a 250W metal halide with 2x 96W Compact Fluorescent Bulb Actinic Blue's would be o.k. I don't want to get in to a chiller situation.

Or should I go with T5HO systems?
2x 39W T5 High Output Daylight 12000K
2x 39W T5 High OutputActinic Blue
If the T5HO, would one fixture be enough?

I currently have LPS corals.

If you're sticking with LPS, you'll be fine with the T5s. I've had great growth using T5s over softies and LPSs.

If you think you're going to seriously do SPS, go with the halide setup. Better to buy once, than twice.

If you want to do SPS at some point then I'd go metal halide. PM Sent

I had the same tank (58G) and used an Aqualight Pro 1 150W MH with Actinics and it was awesome.... It sat on legs so no canopy needed and no heat issues. I grew LPS and SPS with no problem.

So just the one T5HO 156watt setup would be fine?

I just bought a Nova Extreme T5HO setup, got a really good deal.

Thanks for the input.
