Which RODI do I pick?

I'm so glad you posted this. I was just about to order a captive purity RODI from marine depot that costs over $260 more

Besides making 40 gpd more The only real difference that I can is that it comes with a pressure gauge and a inline TDS meter. Also I think the drinking water kit is a real bonus. Most of the time the drinking water kit is an add on accessory that's over $100

I think I'll be going with the Water general and just adding my own TDS meter and pressure gauge. This is the TDS meter I'm ordering.

Wate General sells a TDS meter also, reasonably priced.

I have the inline TDS meter from Spectrapure.Works like a champ,heres a link.http://spectrapure.com/St_quality_p7.htm">http://spectrapure.com/St_quality_p7.htm </a>
Same one that Cali Reefer posted but $10 cheaper.

I know that its not exactly cheap(29.95),but having one is a great investment, since it keeps you informed of how your input and your output of the RO is performing so you will know when it is time to change the filters/membranes.

yeah ill probably grab one of those down the road i guess I just spent $145 on the unit it hurts to add another $40 ontop of that. This is hopefully my big purchase for the month. Ive been spending alot lately gotta slow it down but this is a definite needed purchase.

I hear ya man,Ive tried my best this whole year to take it slow. Just make sure you borrow one for your first few makeups so that you are sure that your output is within safe parameters. RO units have been known to have problems at first from the Manuf.(Defective membranes,etc...),and I would hate for you to have algae issues if you did not catch it in time.

yeah i definitly will do that im sure someone near by or ill grab marks for the first few batches of RO filtered. Thanks for the advice everyone and if you have a cheap TDS meter you want to sell (or give away) let me know.

I would suggest buying an flush valve as well if the unit does not allready have one. I would also suggest buying a Typhoon III from Air,Water & Ice(http://www.airwaterice.com/category/1/">http://www.airwaterice.com/category/1/</a>) rather then one of Ebay but that is just my Personal Opinion based of what I have read on Reef Central. The DI Cartridges are far superior to the DI Resin used in the Ebay units, and for the price they include the auto shutoff valve and the fast flush valve.

I know it is probably to late, but you could always cancel your order :) I spent the extra 40 bucks and I feel like It was worth it.I had the Aqua Safe unit for the first couple years ,and I cant say that it was bad or did not do its job.But I did have algae issues with all my tanks even with a low TDS,now that i have been using the Typhoon for the past year they have all but dissapeared.Just something to think about.

The ebay unit has both flush and auto shutoff and its to late I already bid and purchased. Thanks for the suggestion though

Cool good luck with it.

Well I just bought the Water General, inline tds and pressure gauge from ebay grand total with shipping $189. I'm so glad I can stop the weekly water trips to the store.:) Thanks for the recommendations everyone.

2 things you can do to maximize your W.G. RO performance.

One get a 0.2 micron absloute high capasity perfilter "Zeta Zorb". Two when you replace your carbon filter get a .6 micron cholrine guzzuler.

Thanks Roland i will make sure to remember that...or atleast reference this thread lol

Does anyone have any experience using a permeate pump? I was thinking of using one down the road I know that it will speed up RO production but will this also give you more DI water with less waste?
Here's one for $122 but I'm sure you can find it cheaper on e-bay

I got a 9 stage 100gpd RO, with quad chamber RO for sale at $90

It only ran <500 gallons of water, in flawless new condition with all the plumbing.

Use a permeate pump only on systems with a pressure tank. The pump is a means to address the back pressure put on the system by a pressure tank.

A booster pump on the other hand, will make a huge difference in your output if you don't have high pressure out of the tap.

At a minimum, unclip the DI cartridge from its clips, and orient it vertaically with bottum up flow. Horizontal DI is a basic configuration flaw common to the retro-fitted drinking water systems sold on the auction web site.

When you replace your prefilters, drop down to a 1 micron sediment filter.

Unless you have some specific issue tyou are dealing with, no need for two carbon blocks - use one good quality block and you'll be fine as long as you change it about every 6 months.

I can't tell for sure, but it looks like there is no check valve in that system to disallow water from the pressure tank from flowing back through the DI. Remember that contact time is critical when using DI. Check valves are inexpensive.

Hopefully you picked up a tds meter - check to see if your DI output is 0 or 1 ppm. If not, or when it starts to climb, you may want to add to your system a full size, vertical, refillable DI stage.

LEt me know if you have any questions
