(And I wash them with boiling hot water) I found a mantis shrimp in one.
Only the size of my pinkie finger - but still clearly a mantis.
Maybe all my snail and crab deaths actually are accounted for?

I just wonder how it got inside the overflow box to get into the sock?!

If he's not dead, I'd say start a species tank. Unless he's the kind that's break the glass...

He smelled like fresh lobster when I pulled him out of the steaming sock.
Dead!

Nice find Robb!! Good thing you lucked out and got it out of the tank. Those are some nasty shrimp!!

I never knew I had one, now my dead pistol shrimp and several large dead hermits make some sense.
I will feed my yellow tang some extra nori, apologizing I thought it was him...

LOL, he's been telling you all along it is a setup and he was framed!

Awesome catch. I always am real careful when turning my socks inside out and cleaning them as I always seem to get bristleworms in mine.

wow - i was cleaning mine as you were typing this - i had my hand all in it too! didnt want to hijack your thread so i posted asking the best method to clean them, i just converted my trickle filter to sump so this was my first cleaning.

Good catch. Anything to take your mind off the smell of cooking rock right?
Glad you found the culprit.

I have found 3 shrimp in my filter socks so far, 2 peppermint, and one Red & White pistol ($$$). The only one I didn't notice until it was too late, was the pistol, doh. I was curios as how they were getting down there myself. hummm.
