Looking for more info on these other than liveaquaria. I think they are colorful fish and would to buy a couple. I just need more info to make a wise decision. If anyone has/ had them I would like to here what you thought.

Thanks Brad

I had one and only one. I was never as happy as I was when it jumped from the tank. I bought a trap to try to catch it. Every fish except for it when in the trap. The fish was ultra aggressive and made having any other wrasses impossible. Search this fish on reefcentral and you will find that I am not alone.

In general, all wrasse should be met with caution. Although I have never owned a whip fin, much less a fairy wrasse long enough, I've had the most luck with smaller wrasse (not six line) but in particular cryptic (pink streaked) and tanaka pygmy or possum wrasse. Being of a smaller size, their temperament is very shy and seclusive in a big tank setting whereas the normal adult 4-5" wrasse (fairy, flasher, pencil,) will typically display aggression per their growth/age. That being said, you can certainly try. If you decide to keep a couple, I would try introducing 2 at the same time, not either/or. Hope this helps Brad...

I've had both, fairy and Tanaka wrasses, in a bc29 and then 34g. In my case, size (tank that is) does matter. Both wrasses were aggressive towards cohabitants (platinum clowns and purple firefish).

The Tanaka is all of 1.5" but is a mean little guy despite the generality that they are secretive, shy and non-aggressive. I missed my Tanaka.
