ok, it's hard to get a shot of it, but something either IN the frogspawn or just behind it periodically shoots out a stream of white mucus looking stuff. it sits as is for a second, then dissipates into long stringy pieces and cloud.

idk if it's a defense mechanism, due to the damsels being rough on everything, or if it is some sort of egg release or what is going on. any clues?

also, i have a bubble tip anemone that is about a week old in this tank (parameters were settled and predicatable, only a little drop in calcium since the addition) and he's hiding upside down under a live rock arch. He sulks all morning then comes out and waves all afternoon and into the evening. is that normal? everything i have read says they come out when the lights are on, but shy away from direct light
anyway, thanks for reading :)

Nems are light lovers, they in fact need a good amount of light to survive.

The frogspawn could have been taking a dump or you could have a vermatid snail.

lol, dorks.. i don't see any snails, the pics are a bit vague.. .can they look like little tiny sticks coming out of the rock? i will try get some pics at home, but the server has been down, hence starbucks reporting :(
the domino has been harrassing the frogspawn for ... waving... i gues, cos he's a massive jerk.

dunno what you've got... but take a look at this website and see if anything matches...

sarah did u ever find out what this was?...i have a large piece under a rock in my aquarium it has never moved and has never gotten any larger..my yellow watchman goby has made a home next to it..its about a milimeter thick...i tried to pull a piece off today but basically just kinda ripped a tiny oiece off...felt kinda cottany but not stingy when i pulled it

i think it was a sponge after all.. it grew thicker and grew like a little star shape out of it, but that's as far as it got cos my tank crashed during our vacation... i see some more bulding though, i am just assuming it's sponge :)
Austin.. i try not to touch things without knowing what they are... doing so helps you identify things like bristleworms.... ouchies :lol2:

?? If you see it coming out of the frogspawn, its not a sponge. Many LPS can expel items form their "mouth/anus", or Manus (as my buddy Rich Ross named it). It can be digested food, or zooxanthellae. Either way, it is usually not to detrimental. Be sure there is no other stinging corals near, or it may be some type of "warfare" and mesentary filaments.

like that's new though... guess what has just cropped up in my tank.
about a bazillion more tiny little weenie feather duster worms. how long to these suckers take to get a decent size? these are the thickness of a tiny sewing needle

If they have a white tube, they never get that big. I think the biggest I've seen was maybe a dime opened up.

aww man, i was hoping they would be big and pretty :)
never mind, nothing like a tank freebie.. as long as they don't take over.
here's a pic of some of the tubes, plus some sort of tiny thing with tentacles that look like the ones on a hungry candy cane (the white spots in the middle area)
