Who blows off their live rock regularly?

I was prepping my 465 gallon bare bottom SPS tank for the annual ChemiClean treatment for red cyano. Seems I get this stuff once a year. Funny how this can grow on the rock in the direct output of a Vortech MP60. Anyways, I had a baster and was blasting the small patches of cyano on the rock to get them in the filter socks, and I was just amazed at the dusty stuff that was coming up and out of my Totoka rock from the nooks and crannies. My reef tank stays spotless looking from the massive internal water movement, 45,000 gph peak, and the rock and tank bottom always look very clean. You would never think all that stuff was in the tank. I think I am going to start using a MaxiJet once every couple months and blast off the live rock. Maybe cut down on slime algae nutrients in the tank this way.

Just wondering if anyone blows off their LR regularly? I never have, but think I will start.

I am just starting getting my 90g going and did my fist waterchange last night and I blew off my rocks. I need to get a turkey baister to make it easier instead of a small pipette lol. I though of the powerhead method but maybe with a smaller on for me ;)

I do it occasionally, plus I also do that to to my corals, too...my Duncan especially.

I doit with a turkey baster when i see something building up, and hit it with a maxi-jet before water changes.

I use a baster to blow them off before wc.
The way it was explained to me is it keeps the rocks from getting fizzy looking and opens the rock for better access to the aerobic and anaerobic bacteria inside for better filtration.

I blast my rock and blast the gravel to. The corals love it. They all go into super feed mode. I turn some of the Vortechs up to full throttle when I do it. I don't have any schedule for it. At least once our twice a month or more.

I blast my rock and coral every other week with a turkey baster. The fish love it!!

I blast mine on every water change, usually it starts withi a bucket of water then a Korilla.

These 2 bacteria are opposites in the fact that one uses oxygen and the other is oxygen free.
So you would actually be stirring up dead zones before they can go anaerobic.

i take a soft bristle toothbrush to the LR and that throws a lot of debris into the water column... that helped to clear up some red cyano that was beginning to develop on the LR.

I do that as well.

I have a length of tube, about 18 inches that fits directly into a return jet. Turn off the return, press the tube in, turn on the return and blow off the rock. It stirs up a whole lot of junk. As mentioned before, the corals love it. The clam goes bonkers and really opens up and my mandarin starts acting as if it's a feast of pods falling from the sky.

Then, while the water is all cloudy, I pull out the old water and replace with new. It only adds about 5 minutes to the water change and I figure the more debris I can keep off the rocks, the better.

I have a small tank and minimal live rock, but I also do the same.... every WC with a turkey baster. It's pretty gross...
