For those using 1000w fixtures, I was wondering

What reflectors/pendants you were using?

How high off the water you have them?

How many fixtures are you using?

Are you mixing other wattage sizes?

Dims of the tank you have them on?

What kind of coverage are you getting per fixture?

Also curious if you went from 400w to these and what your personal pros and cons are for the two?

THANKS!

I know 1000 have a smaller bulb selection.

Sunlight supply used to make a big white reflector for 1000.

Don't worry, I still have a pair despite getting married.

I sat here chucklin' through this whole thread. My shoulders were just a bouncing.

How I erect this whole thing hinges on specifics.

Help me out here. My tank build design will be based off how high the canopy would have to be built to accommodate different lighting options. The ceiling in the basement only has 9' ceilings unlike the rest of the house. I don't want the canopy to be so high that half the room is blocked out. I know I could run the bulbs I have now almost low enough to teabag the tank.

For my old display the lamps themselves were around 24" above the water. Better be venting them in a canopy.

That is why I wear baggy shorts. (OK, last one I promise) Besides, you got to help Seth out so I can get going on the electrical for this thing. :-)

Seems there are a lot of draw backs for the room with the design I have.

sorry but that room layout will not work out very well. The tank is too low, the canopy is too small unless your planning on LEDS and having to remove it any time you want in the tank.

and unless youre off to the side I doubt you will be able to view the TV very well.

I love the peninsula but I would say move the tank under that support beam and leave the TV where it is but lower.

If you want 1000's you will need at least 30" tall canopy and some way to vent the heat either to the room or outside or whatever. And they will be BRIGHT so you better have a TV that can compete or you will never see it with the lights on.

I didn't bother updating the actual canopy plan. It would either go all the way to the ceiling with tv's on all three sides built in or would have a platform on the top of the tank with one large tv on a swivel atop the platform.

Venting is easy. I would have an externally mounted exhaust/blower.

I'm unlike most people when it comes to tank height. I feel everyone has them mounted too high. I think it's just because most people have to worry about mounting equipment under the tank. (I'm plumbed to an exterior sump room so it's not an issue.) So, people just became accustom to seeing them up high. I enjoy viewing a tank from a seated position. I'm relaxing and don't want to look up to view the tank. If anything, I enjoy looking DOWN onto the tank and corals. The topside of corals are a lot prettier than the underside. I do the same thing with my living room tv mounting. So many people mount flat screens up high and tilt them. Mine is eye level to the couch on the wall.

I am leaning away from 1000 watters though. With the heat generated, I don't think I could do a MH/LED hybrid like I'm doing now. The LED chips would fry even with the hood ventilated.
