I've got some serious sized pieces of LR covered with GSP. I'm just now cycling my DT and was wondering if I could put them in the sump without worry of them somehow traveling into the rest of the system. I would like to retain the "Live" aspect of the rock and its bacteria. I don't mind the die off of the GSP. It will give the system bio matter to cycle with.
Please let me know what you folks think.
THANKS!

GSP being Green Star Polyps, right??? Why would you want it gone?

I say option C

Sell it to someone who wants the GSP, then go get some more live rock.

Some shops will at least trade 2 lbs. for 1 lb. but with gsp on it, I'm sure you could negotiate better terms. No matter how common gsp can be, it's still a critter and worth trying to let it live. (IMO) Good luck with the final stages on your tank Seth!

I've seen gsp polyps show up on the far left side of the tank... (when a rock with it is on the far right side of the tank)..

did a fish somehow carry it over there?
did a polyp break off and reattach itself on the other side of the tank?

I dont know..
I like GSP, and LOVE it when it covers a tank's "open areas"..

but, if it can jump from one side of the tank to another.. I'm sure it can go from the refugium/sump to the display..

That's what I had tried to do for the last month but had no takers. Looks like I may have someone now though. I'm really glad because I hate to kill anything for the hell of it and actually like it, but can't risk it spreading out of control with the amount of SPS I plan on having.

Will GSP harm the SPS if they come into contact with one another?

It's my understanding that GSP will overtake just about any other coral in the tank. It grows like a weed and is very aggressive. So, it harms other corals like Kudzu does on trees. Nothing venomous about it but it chokes out the corals by covering them. Haven't seen that happen first hand but I've read horror stories on the boards.

I won't ever put it in my tank. I love it, but it is way to invasive for me...

My gsp def mowed over a small colony of LOR, not happy about that but im in the same boat seth. Mine will be put up for sale sometime soon...

I've got a fish only that I put it in... hoping it will choke out the aiptasia... lol

Hahaha!! That's a good plan Ron!! I wonder if I can have them on my sand bed. That way if it gets out of control I just have to remove the sand in that area.

In that case. Seth, are you ever in the Jimmy Carter area? If so I'd like to take them off your hands for ya.
