I have legal access to Interceptor "if I need it" from my vet. I know one of the side effects of using this for other treatments is that it kills crabs and other inverts upon multiple treatments. Could this be used to kill problematic starfish as well? I know it may decimate my pod population, but I currently have no pod eating fish in my tank, so I have time to replenish that, but I'm mainly interested in it's effectiveness against Asterinas.

My guess would be that it would take out the Asterinas, but that is just a guess. Since most echinoderms seem to be sensitive when shipping, water chem, etc...I would think that it would harm them, but maybe some who have tried it can chime in!

harlequins will decimate that population for you!I got a pair that are inseparable and have cut the population down to almost none. I was a vet tech for over 5 years i definitely wouldn't put interceptor in my tank let alone my animals.

No effect on starfish,
Interceptor blocks certain chemicals in crustacean ecto skeletons - something a starfish is totally lacking...

Ok, that is what I was looking for, didn't know exactly what it did to inverts, just that it killed them.

Brisco, I picked up a harlequin shrimp last night at the meeting but when I got home it was upside down and not moving...didn't pull through, not sure what happened but I'm still in need of something to control the stars before putting all the zoas from my frag tank into the display, and was curious if this would work.

I'd suggest a google search for anyone unfamiliar with Interceptor use in Reef tanks.

Been used for years quite successfully.

Here's an Interceptor thread we had going last month.

Interceptor won't do anything to starfish.

Thanks Dave, I'd done plenty of research on its use for red bugs, and made sure I had a source should I ever need it, but just got to thinking last night wondering if it might be useful for asterinas, and in my searching, I didn't see anyone address that.
