Will it cause another cycle?

I currently have a 75 gallon tank stocked with mostly fish but I do have a few soft corals. I have about 100 lbs of live rock and about 40 lbs of aragonite sand which makes for a very thin sand bed. Today I purchased 10 lbs of arag-alive sand. The first question I have is how to add the sand without disturbing the tank too much? Also, will the addition of new sand cause another cycle.

The tank has been running for about 11 months.

hmm i dont know about the cycle but, i think if you had a sterile cup and put your hand over the top and lowered it to the sandbed that might work. Turn all the pumps off of course

The sand does have the water in it.

Also should I use the chemical in the packet the company recomends using for cloudy water or just simply wait a day or so for it to go away on its own?

forget the chemical imo it will go away in a few hours if you have good flow an filtration

I would wash it first!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would use old tank water from a water change. Pour the sand through </em>the bucket of water slowly. This rids the sand particles of most all dust and debris. Stir it up a bit and it's pretty clean when you put it in your tank.

I've used a length of tubing attached to a funnel to direct the sand to the sand bed. If the tubing clogs just pour alittle tank water through it..

If your sandbed is already established I would mix in the new with it after the cup method rather than just dumping it on top, leaving it and possibly smothering out the old live sand

Good idea...It's never crossed my mind to mix them together. I never thought that it would matter but I guess it couldn't hurt.

i would rinse...

I use a gallon zip lock back, put the fresh sand in the bag, lower to bottom, unzip and pour - very minimal clouding....works great

Wash it first and thorughly with old tank water as Dakota said, then i would add it slowly with a large clean cup.
