I have been dosing Nopox to try and get rid of my hair algae. I noticed a few weeks ago that my Anemones were acting weird. Didn't think much of it till yesterday I noticed all my Anemones were gone. The only thing I can think of is the dosing of Nopox has affected them. Has anyone else had this happen?

Have you been measuring your NO3 & PO4 while you’ve been dosing the Nopox? The anemones cannot live in an ultra low nutrient system, without being fed.

fwiw,
Anemones contain symbiotic dinoflagellates called zooxanthella, just like corals do. Those dinoflagellates have algae within them which require nutrients, in order to use during photosynthesis, just like any plant does.

So, the anemone either absorbs nutrients indirectly from the water, from captured food or from clownfish that may be hosting and expell it from their gills & digestive tract (more direct than from surrounding water).

My clowns have been hosting on them. None of my other corals have shown any signs of not getting what they need. I also do feed some Reef Roids every week.

From the few things I read, if nems respond negatively, backing off for a bit seems to help.

Otherwise, I would check to be sure all of my parameters are spot on.

What I know of Nopox is that it is a carbon source(s). Dosing it ‘will’ alter the balance of bacteria in a reef system and/or on organisms. Some may tolerate that better than others. Perhaps even the same species sometimes? Best to do such things slow and steady, imo.
