I am wondering if one of you IT guys could help.

I am setting up my reef in my basement and my router is located upstairs. I have ordered a Neptune Apex controller, but was wondering if there is a way to make the connection between my router and the controller wireless, or do I really need to run an ethernet cable to the controller?

Thanks!

Michael

You can get a wireless router to hook up to the Apex. If you go into Best Buy and tell them you have a remote device you need to connect to the internet, they'll show you some options. Use the information you get from them and see if you can find one cheaper online.

Also, I've found that with a lot of stores, especially the tech ones, if you mention it has anything to do with an aquarium, they're immediately stumped. If you say "I have a device I like a DVD player I want to hook up to the internet," then they'll know what you're talking about. I've run into that problem both at Best Buy and Home Depot. If I give them the concept, I get better advice than if I tell them exactly what I'm doing.

Thanks Brian...so the wireless router will be in the basement with the apex and will see the wireless network in my house?

Yep! I've got my DVD player and my satellite box hooked up to a router that connect to my wireless internet. I'm not sure how easy the set up is on an apex, but I've read about other people doing it. This is what I'll be doing once I upgrade to an apex in the future.

JUst got a hold of Neptune support. They were very helpful...the device is called a wireless bridge.

I've installed my Apex Lite and after doing the wired thing for setting it up I then installed a Netgear universal WIFI internet adapter (WNCE2001) $64 from Staples. Apex and internet adapter next to aquarium, router on other side of house. Works great.
