Worm or star?

Appears to be a bristle worm in your carnation.

That's what I thought at first, but there are five "ends" that are very skinny, and get bigger as (it appears) they come together... Its hard to see though, that part is hidden (where they would come together, if they do in fact come together).

Are there banded bristleworms?

That's not a bristleworm.

It does look like some sort of brittle star - harmless IMO. Pretty neat looking one too.
