I use a MAG pump. There is some heat, but it isn't an issue in my tank. Always been reliable for me.

I've had an Eheim for five yrs or so, and I got it used. Reliable and quiet. Ran a mag 10 for a while and hated it, way too loud. I do use a mag 5 for my salt mixing setup. Run it externally, it runs so hot I got a fan running on it.

I would go eheim. They make solid stuff, and have been doing so for a long time.

FWIW-

I have a couple of the older Eheim designs. One I purchased to run with my UV in 1986. It still works like a champ.

It was all original too, until I accidentally broke the ceramic shaft while cleaning it. That's a pretty strong testament to the brand's reliability!

Nice! Thats the type of longevity I like to hear about. Soon as my "fun" money recovers from the rest purchases, I plan to pick one up. Thanks for all the info!
