But the neighbor would have to supply the beer to get things started. ;)

I tend to put off tank maintenance especially water changes. It was much easier when I had a smaller tank. With the 300g it's just such a pain. There are many things I could do to streamline the process and make it easier. I have not taken the time to do those things.

Urine. The cure-all for everything marine. Too much vodka dosing of myself may lead to some fertilization of the neighbor's grass anyway. LOL...

Ok, now. Let's admit it. Has anybody on this site actually tried it to start the cycle in their aquarium. I am honestly going to say no, but, I have a 10 gallon that I may experiment with. It will be in the Drygoods section of this site after the experiment. first $20 takes it. Fully cycled 10 gallon starter tank. LOL. $25 if you want the water too. LOLOL.....

I normally let mine mix for at least 8 hours. It's easy to throw the salt in there with a heater and a couple of powerheads and forget about it...

Is your water clear, or do you have any undissolved salt leftover from your mixing?

Edit: i guess it all really depends on your mixing station as well...

I wait till all salt is at least suspended. So no, I wouldn't say its clear, but no salt sludge in the bottom of mixing container. I used to wait 24 hours, but have slowly gotten away from it.

Well, I don't do 24 hours mixing, but, should probably go at least until the salt is completely dissolved. JMO...

How do you measure the salinity of the new water you are transferring into the tank without all of the salt being completely dissolved?

I've always wondered if big tanks like that are more forgiving.
